Modifying IC sockets

So I have a 14 pin IC and a 16 pin socket… Can I yank two pins out and use it like normal. My pcb permits it, space wise. I know, I know… Just do without the socket like a man. I would but I already made the pcb holes precarious by removing a borked socket and don’t want to heat the IC legs too long

Yes you can…

Thanks boss

You can also cut a 28 pin wide socket in half if you have to fit a 28 pin narrow IC - if you have ordered 50 pcs of the wrong socket. Don’t ask me how I know…

vice versa works too in this case. don’t ask me how i know…

@ByteFrenzy, rosch
I have another 50 for you

My biggest disaster was not RTFMing during a Preen build. I bought and soldered a turned pin gold plated 40 pin socket for the Maple Mini prior to arrival of the chip, not knowing it was pre soldered with Arduino 2.54mm type pins which won’t go in a turned pin socket.
Out it came, in bits …
