Marbles: LED enhancements for color-blind people

#1

Here is a firmware update for Marbles that adds a color-blind mode.

How to update?

Power the module on with the left DEJA VU button pressed ((F) in the manual).

The firmware audio data has to be sent to the RATE CV input.

The RATE pot controls the signal level; and the RATE LED works as a signal meter.

Try to adjust signal level to stay in the orange.

How to enable/disable the color-blind mode?

Power the module on with the X section mode selection button ((N) in the manual) pressed.

How is the color-blind mode different from the default display mode?

LED brightness and blinking patterns are more contrasted. Glowing, moderate brightness for the first setting, high intensity for the middle setting, low brightness for the last setting.

When selecting scales, the number of blinks (from 1 to 6 – continuous) indicates the selected scale.

Ask a friend if you can’t differentiate the orange colour

Curious question: is there any change to noise or other specs when you blink the lights? Or are the LED drivers (hardware) designed to mitigate this?

I’m afraid I can’t update the updater :frowning:

The LEDs used on recent modules have a much lower current consumption than before (about 5x lower), so there’s much less current noise when PWMing them.

Hello Olivier,

I don’t own a marbles but I’d like to thank you, for taking the needs of colour-blind people like me in account. Many many of marvelous modules are really difficult to use for us (and “us” means around ten percent of your customers).

Best regards
Florian
