Ooh nice toys. Huge System 100M.
Yeah, he’s been a serious synth collector for a long time now. He’s got one of the few surviving EMS Synthi 100 modulars, too, which he used extensively on the RUOK album. It’s quite a photogenic system, with the nixie sequencer display, builtin oscilloscope and massive pin-matrix boards, and it appears several times in the video.

I noticed the EMS gear too. How could any synth nerd not?! I always loved the VCS 3. Did you know EMS is still going The problem is, old/knackered VCS 3’s are also expensive, if you can find one…
Hence, recently i’ve been looking into building a clone of the VCS 3. And it looks like it is possible. The question is whether or not “I” can do it, or if it would take a more experienced/qualified /dedicated/nuttier person than I am??
nuttier than you are??? ok, if you try im right behind you
I’ve put my name down for a set of PCB’s. But of course these things use a lot of ‘rare’ parts that you can’t easily get now. Thats going to be one of the headaches! So im thinking that if I can do it at all, then it’s going to take time just to gather all the parts required.
But on the odd chance anyone else here is interested, then have a look around on here: http://www.phutney.com/VCS3Clone.html
@Luap looks ambitious. Interesting though. I’ve gotta say, I like the whole pin-matrix concept, but if I wanted to own a pin-matrix modular synth, personally, I’d probably go for a modern modular or semi-modular, rather than trying to recreate a vintage one. I’d love to see how you get on with it though.

@Luap. Wow. Just looked at your link. That looks like a hell of a lot of work - but also a lot of fun.
The prices for the Ghielmetti patch matrix boards are really rather frightening!
